Donald E. Girard, M.D.
Chief of Medicine

Dr. Girard develops many of our clinician exchange and training programs.

Dr. Girard has practiced medicine and provided medical training for 40 years. He is a graduate of Pomona College and the Baylor College of Medicine, and is licensed to practice medicine in the state of Oregon. He has taught medicine at Emory University Medical School, the Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU), and the University of Sydney. Dr. Girard has held several administrative and leadership roles in the medical field, including Associate Dean for Graduate and Continuing Medical Education at the OHSU School of Medicine. Dr. Girard worked as a visiting professor on the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

Dr. Girard is a professor emeritus at OHSU and was named as OHSU’s Doctor-Citizen of the Year in 2017 for his work to further the art and science of medicine, with specific recognition for his work in the area of physician wellness.
